I had never been hurt at work before. But not long ago, some shelving fell off the wall in our office. It hit me on my shoulders, the back of my head and across the top of my back. The pain was horrendous. The company that I work for refused to pay for my bills from the hospital. It was a slap in the face considering that I had been working for this company for 10 years and trusted them. I contacted the folks at nowinnofeeireland.net to try to get help.
One of the first issues is that this is not the first time some of the shelving on the walls at work has fallen down. We used to have cubicles with built-in shelving, but the manager decided to buy new desk furniture which had no shelving. To try to make up for this, shelves were installed on the walls behind our desks. Just a few weeks before my accident, some of them fell off and hit another co-worker. Luckily, he was okay. But I overheard management state that something needed to be done to make sure that anything on the walls is made more secure before someone else is really hurt. I noticed that nothing was done beyond that statement.
So, when I was hit, two managers came running to my area immediately and demanded that I see the company doctor, who told me that I looked perfectly fine to him. Three weeks later, I was still having trouble with my shoulder, despite the doctor stating there was nothing wrong with me. I was even having trouble with typing on my computer or writing. Managers tried to say that I was messing around and I caused the shelves to fall down. This was ludicrous considering I was not touching them, and did nothing of the sort. My medical bills are mounting, and I am going to make sure I get the help that I need in our fair court system.
